STEVE PRESCOTT FOUNDATION

PRESS STATEMENT

Following the hugely successful League At War Boxing Evening held at the Reebok Stadium the Steve Prescott Foundation can announce that the Evening made the Charity in excess of £40,000. The Foundation Committee are delighted with the results, Foundation Treasurer Frank Elwick said “To stage the event cost approximately £43,000, it was calculated risk on the outset but with the calibre of Rugby League greats like Garry Schofield, Steve Hampson, Alan Hunte, Anthony Sullivan taking part in a unique event we was always confident of making a small profit plus entertaining the public but we actually managed to not only raise a lot of money and awareness for both charities but also gave the punters a extraordinary night that they will never forget.”

The Steve Prescott Foundation have already this year passed over £57,000 to the Rfl Benevolent Fund & Christie Hospital Manchester this year and with the money from the Boxing and the London Marathon they will be presenting both Charities with further cheques to take the total raised over the last year to over a incredible £100,000.

Chairman Michael Denning is elated with the results and said, “We would like to thank every person who has been affiliated with the foundation over the last 12 months especially the Legend Boxers, Andrew Pahlen, the sensational Wakefield Wildcat Dolls and our Main Sponsors Bardon Concrete. Steve himself has not just battled against his illness but has worked incredibly hard in organising the events and obviously taking part. Next year we are looking into different ways of not only entertaining the public in unique and bizarre ways but to also carry raising money & awareness of both Charities. On Sept 21st we start on the Rugby Leagues Walk Against Cancer from the Hull KR Stadium, we are supporting the push for a Clive Sullivan Monument for the city and we are inviting all the area’s under age Rugby Teams to join in. This year we have some great Rugby League Celebrities joining in on different days of the walk including the England Coach Tony Smith and Sky Pundits Stevo and Phil Clarke, we also have had the approval of the RFL to take the actually Grand Final ball with us on our 250 mile 14 days 26 Rugby League Clubs walk. We would like supporters of every club to join in and share the camaraderie that was started from last years walk.”
