Three Charities benefit from Rugby League Tri athletes
Ex International Rugby League players, Gary Price and Francis Stephenson are embarking on two triathlons in the coming months, in order to raise awareness and funds for the Mike Gregory Trust, Steve Prescott Foundation and also the RFL’s Benevolent Fund.
Both players have links and associations with all three beneficiaries of this fundraising initiative and wanted the opportunity to contribute to the sport following the successful culmination of their playing careers.
Both individuals have been training for over two months in preparation of these events and have been supported by local company GTP Cycles who kindly donated cycles and equipment for the challenge.
Andy Blakely and Jacques Banting complete the team of four competing individually in both events.
Ex Wakefield, Featherstone and South Sydney Second rower Gary Price is looking forward to the challenge:
“After finishing playing it was difficult to fill the gap that competing professionally filled and I had been looking for a challenge I could get my teeth into. This Triathlon series seemed the perfect answer and also afforded me the chance to contribute to these three RL charities.”
Wakefield Wildcats General Manager Francis Stephenson:
“When Gary first approached me with this idea I was unsure as to what the event would actually entail but quickly realised it’s a lot tougher than the usual thing we prepared for as players. I have enjoyed the training, if not the saddle sores, and it has given me the challenge I needed following my retirement.”
“All three charities deserve our support and are relevant to Gary and I in different ways. We are both excited about raising both awareness and much needed funds for these causes.”
